With tighter emission norms on internal combustion engines with each passing day, manufacturers are being forced to find new avenues to keep ICEs alive and kicking, one of them being forced induction. Kawasaki is the only mainstream manufacturer to have put this technology on their road bikes with the H2 line of bikes, but it looks like Honda is ready to do the same, with a new patent filed for a supercharged Africa Twin engine .

Honda Africa Twin Supercharged: What could be the end result?

In this new patent, we can see that Honda has filed a patent for a twin-screw supercharger, similar to the one on the Kawasaki H2. But while Kawasaki has used the supercharger to make its H2 bikes blazingly fast, Honda will use the supercharger to power the Africa Twin’s mid-range.

Another reason is to meet stricter emission norms, where the increased output courtesy of the supercharger will come in handy. The Africa Twin’s engine isn’t about explosive peak output figures, but rather prioritizes usable low- and mid-range grunt. This engine character also resonates with the way the end-user will be using the bike more often than not.

For now, these are just patents and the company hasn’t given any indication that these will be put into production any time soon.
