Mahindra’s first electric SUV, the XUV400, has achieved a significant milestone of being produced with 100% renewable energy and in a water-positive set-up at the company’s facility in Nashik, Maharashtra. The company said that the energy saved in the production of XUV400 vehicles can light up more than 1000 homes in a year and is equivalent to planting one lakh trees.
Being produced in a water positive set-up also means that these vehicles help in saving more than 20,000 kiloliters of water and can provide water to 100 households in a year. The company said that it has taken a holistic approach to manufacturing the XUV400. Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, Mahindra, said, “The overall approach is to build that planet-friendly vehicle in the most sustainable way possible and we have managed to do just that with our XUV400.”

Mahindra Group claims that its production facilities have a completely water positive set-up. It is also the first Indian ‘automobile and components’ company to feature in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) world index for the second consecutive year in 2022.
The automaker is also the first Indian organization to sign EP100 and adopt a carbon pricing model. The company’s North American facility in Houston recently converted to 100% renewable energy. The company has also been included in the CDP ‘A’ list for Climate and Water for the years 2020 and 2021.
