The Highcross and Crysta have different use cases, but your buying decision depends on where you’ll be driving it — highway or city.

I am in a dilemma whether to buy the Toyota Innova Crysta with the diesel engine or the new Innova Highcross with the petrol-hybrid powertrain. My priority is efficiency, but the Highcross is more expensive than the Crysta. Please suggest which one is a good buy.

Autocar India says: The old Innova Crysta is still going strong for reliable MPV seekers. It is ideal for long distance driving and rough roads where the robust body-on-frame chassis can cope better than a monocoque chassis. The Innova Hycross is a completely different car and is meant more for short urban commuting. It is more refined, rides better, is far more comfortable and has more features than the diesel Crysta. However, it does not have the smooth cruising capability of the latter.
So, if you’re mainly going to drive on the highway, it’s the Crysta diesel for you, but if you’re mainly going to drive in the city, the Highcross is a better option. You should also note that the Crysta diesel is only available with a manual gearbox, while the Highcross Hybrid only gets an automatic, making their respective highway or urban use cases even more suitable.
