Bollywood star Ananya Panday will star in streaming service Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming original series Call Me Bay.
The series, which has begun production, was announced by actor Varun Dhawan in a hilarious video posted on social media.
“Good news guys, Ananya Panday is the new fashionista in the Primeverse! Watch this first look and stay tuned. #CallMeBae new series, filming now!” Dhawan posted on Instagram.
The short clip begins with Dhawan announcing that Pandey will headline the new show from the streamer.
“Hi guys, it’s me, Prime Bey! And today I’m going to unveil Prime Video’s new show Call Me Bey,” the 35-year-old actor says in the video.
Pandey, 24, interrupts her and says, “Call me! This is my show, where I play a fashion expert just like Moi.” Dhawan makes fun of her when she chooses between two different shades of blue clothes.
In response, Pandey channeled Hollywood legend Meryl Streep’s The Devil Wears Prada character Miranda Priestly and schooled Dhawan on the nuances of fashion and couture.
Call Me Bay is created by Ishita Moitra, who has also co-written the series along with Sameena Motalkar and Rohit Nair, said a press release.
In the show, Pandey plays a billionaire fashionista who is disowned by her ultra-wealthy family due to an erotic scandal.
For the first time he has to defend himself. In this journey, she overcomes stereotypes, talks around prejudice, and discovers who she really is.
Colin D’Cunha – Sanju’s assistant director – is directing the show, which is from filmmaker Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment. It is executive produced by Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra.
