Jubilee trailer: Vikramaditya Motwane’s new Prime Video series captures the glamor and scandals of Bollywood’s golden age

The trailer of Vikramaditya Motwane’s upcoming web series Jubilee has just arrived. Ahead of its launch on April 7, Amazon Prime Video has released a trailer for the show, a love letter to the golden age of Bollywood, a life story of a rising star, studio heads, a naïve girl, and more as they chase dreams and struggle to make it in the movie business. Although the premise sounds a bit like Damien Chazelle babylonThe tone of the Jubilee trailer is nowhere near boisterous or loud – or drug-fuelled, for that matter. Motwane – best known for Netflix’s Sacred Games – directs the 10-episode series from a script penned by Atul Sabharwal (Aurangzeb). Episodes 1-5 of Jubilee will be out on April 7, while the remaining 6-10 will release next week on April 14.

Set in a newly independent India, the trailer of Jubilee begins with an unseen female voice saying: “What’s good about some people? When they are not given their piece of land, they occupy it ” In Bombay in 1947, we are introduced to a rising actor named Madan Kumar, who is desperately sought by Srikant Roy (Prosenjit Chatterjee), head of the production house Roy Talkies, for a role in one of his films.Binod Das (Aparshakti Khurana) Enter, depicted as Roy’s “loyal soldier”, who is sent on a mission to transport Madan Kumar from Lucknow to Bombay. However, things take a turn for the worse during the journey when their car crashes. A fire breaks out, trapping Kumar inside the car. Binod, who has always wanted to be a star, decides to grab that opportunity, leaving Kumar for dead and returning empty-handed.

While not explicitly mentioned in the Jubilee trailer, it is implied that the incident was covered up and that Binod had taken the identity of Madan Kumar. (Not sure what they did about his facial features?) He is seen slowly rising up the ranks – attending lavish parties, signing autographs, and wowing audiences by repeating his dialogue. enjoys the places. Of course, whenever things get out of line, studio executives are there to remind the star of her true self. Roy says, “I have mortgaged the studio to finance this film and make you ‘Madan Kumar,’ Binod.”

First up is Jai Khanna (Siddhant Gupta), an aspiring novice director who intends to make a film with Madan Kumar. The stone-faced Madan/Binod warns him, “If you are so fond of wasting money, go gamble at the casino.” Then there is Nilofer (Vamika Gabbi), a singer-dancer who earns her living by performing in front of live audiences, with the belief that one has to dedicate one’s body or one’s soul to make it in the industry. We also meet another star, Sumitra Kumari (Aditi Rao Hydari), who is on a mission to expose the fake Madan Kumar and her husband Roy’s involvement in a cover-up – she was in real romantically involved and justice is being served. “Jubilee was a complete no-brainer for me as an actor. When I heard the story, and especially Binod’s journey, I knew I had to do it. This is one of the most challenging characters I have played so far, but also the most rewarding,” lead Khurrana said in a prepared statement. “Vikramaditya Motwane is an eccentric individual, he inspires not only me but the entire world. Able to bring out the best in the cast and crew.” Jubilee also stars Nandish Sandhu (Super 30) and Ram Kapoor (Thappad), and has a vintage soundtrack composed by Amit Trivedi.
